2 DAYS – Beginner Course
Able to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards. Auxiliary power operation is not required.
Recommendations:
Before taking ASA 101 we recommend that you take the ASA Online Sailing Course entitled “Your First Sail”. In this fun and interactive course you will learn sailboat basics, including sailing terminology, commands used at the helm, and how the sails move the boat forward.
Erie Islands Sailing School is dedicated to promoting sailing education through a series of standards developed by ASA beginning with Keelboat 1 (ASA 101), Keelboat 2 (ASA 102) followed by Basic Coastal Cruising (ASA 103), Bareboat Chartering (ASA 104), Coastal Navigation (ASA 105), and Advanced Coastal Cruising (ASA 106) certifications. We also offer the Catamaran Cruising (ASA 114) and Docking (ASA 118) endorsements.
In addition to ASA Certification classes, we also offer private lessons, new boat owner orientation, sunset cruises, boat deliveries, boat moves, and team building events.
All Instructors with Erie Islands Sailing School hold US Coast Guard Captain’s licenses and are Certified Sailing Instructors with the American Sailing Association.
