  • 2 DAYS - Beginner Course Able to skipper a sloop-rigged keelboat of approximately 20 to 27 feet in length by day in light to moderate winds (up to 15 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards. Auxiliary power operation is not required. Recommendations: Before taking ASA 101 we recommend that you take the ASA Online Sailing Course entitled “Your First Sail”. In this fun and interactive course you will learn sailboat basics, including sailing terminology, commands used at the helm, and how the sails move the boat forward.

  • 2 Days  (4 Days when combined with ASA 101 Basic Keelboat) Sailor must cruise safely in local and regional waters as both Skipper and crew on an auxiliary powered sailboat of about 30 feet in length in moderate wind and sea conditions. Able to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered (inboard or outboard engine) keelboat of approximately 25 to 35 feet length by day in moderate winds (up to 20 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather interpretation, safety and seamanship.

  • 3 days/2 nights or Combine with ASA 101 Basic Keelboat and ASA 103 Basic Coastal Cruising for 7 days. An advanced cruising Standard.  The student will be able to act as Skipper or crew of a 30 - 45 foot boat sailing by day in coastal waters.  This Standard includes knowledge of boat systems, maintenance procedures and basic coastal navigation. Able to skipper a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered keelboat of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of provisioning, galley operations, boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, routine maintenance procedures, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation including basic chart plotting and GPS operation, multiple-anchor mooring, docking, health & safety, emergency operations, weather interpretation, and dinghy/tender operation.

  • Classroom Course: 2 - 2 1/2 days.  Demonstration of Navigational Theory required to safely navigate a sailing vessel in coastal or inland waters.  There is no sailing skill part to this Standard. . On-water coastal navigation skills elements are contained in the ASA103, Basic Coastal CruisingASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, and ASA 106, Advanced Coastal Cruising, in progressively increasing levels of detail.

  • One day Course for review The ASA 111 Standard was designed to improve and/or refresh your sailing skills and knowledge. Students decide on goals prior to the lessons, seminars, or webinars. In classroom situations or on the water training, Instructors may provide students with a written personalized recommended plan and/or curriculum after the session or class is completed. The 111 standard may be taken multiple times, for multiple subjects. The ASA 111 certification is intend to be a permanent addition to your ASA student or instructor record.

  • Pricing and location details on request. An advanced cruising standard for individuals with cruising experience. Able to skipper an auxiliary-powered sailing cruising catamaran of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length during a multi-day liveaboard cruise upon inland or coastal waters in moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. Knowledge of catamaran structure, components and features, performance under sail and power, boat systems, seamanship and safety, heavy weather operation, and emergency response.

  • 1 day: For up to 4 people This course is designed to teach basic docking skills for boats with single inboard or outboard engines. It covers the basic theory and hands-on techniques needed to dock and undock boats in an efficient manner and without damage or injury. This course may be taken on your boat if desired.

    • ASA 105 - Coastal Navigation and Piloting
      • Learn practical navigation on inland and coastal waters, including chart reading, piloting, rules of the road, tides, currents, and more.
    • ASA 107 - Celestial Navigation
      • Learn practical celestial navigation and other aspects of safe ocean navigation.
    • ASA 119 - Marine Weather Endorsement
      • Learn to observe and forecast weather conditions using traditional maritime skills and modern technology.
    • ASA 120 - Radar Endorsement
      • Learn to properly use small craft radar (or simulator) for piloting, navigation, and collision avoidance.  (Prerequisite for this class is ASA 105 or equivalent.)
    Registration fee includes:  Online course, study materials, ASA approved test, ASA Certification, and one-year membership (or extension of existing membership) to the American Sailing Association.
